Immersive Journeys
These four words embody our philosophy as well as the way we travel. We
believe that to better understand a place, you need to meet its
people and experience its living traditions.
Access and Understanding
We've crafted our immersive journeys to provide
our travelers with an insider's access into the local culture. With
a focus on genuine interaction and participation in the living
traditions and festivals that make each destination so special,
Culture Xplorers' travelers come home with a better understanding
of the places we visit, along with an unforgettable adventure.
Small is Beautiful
We keep our group size intimate (from 4 to
12 travelers). This
limited size allows us to enter even small,
off-the-beaten-track communities and private homes, always integrating
easily into our surroundings and maximizing opportunities for
genuine interaction - with locals, with your fellow travelers
and with our trip leaders.
Putting it in Context
In addition to our experienced, bi-lingual trip leaders, we invite
local experts along on certain days to offer insights into festivals,
living traditions and other aspects of their culture.
From linguistic anthropologists in Mexico to traditional healers
in Peru to street kids in a tour guide training program in Brazil,
our day leaders shed light on different facets of their culture
from a personal and unique perspective.
Local motion
Our favorite mode of travel is walking. In our opinion it's
the best pace and vantage point from which to experience the people
and traditions of a country. So, we plan lots of time to
explore on foot, soaking up our experience
at ground level.
That said, we often need to cover longer distances
than walking allows. For our motorized travel we insist on comfortable,
safe and reliable ground transportation. This consists of private
vans and trains for most destinations. On some trips, the option
for riding horses, renting bicycles (or
even hang-gliding) will also be available.
Home away from home
Character, cleanliness, safety and interaction
- not luxury - are the traits we seek with our lodging partners,
whether hotel or host family. Our hotels tend to be charming,
comfortable, locally-run places with lots of local flavor.
We also offer the option of lodging for several
days of the trip with a middle class, host family (some, but not
much English spoken) on our Peru and Mexico trips. For
many, there's no better way to gain insights into daily living
from a local perspective.
Let's Eat!
Trying exotic regional dishes is a highlight
for many of our clients, and most meals are included in the trip
cost. However, we also allow you the flexibility to indulge your
individual tastes during the trip where you are free to choose:
spicy or mild, gourmet or street vendor, cutting edge or comfort
food. In all cases, we'll
recommend great spots to suit every taste
and budget.
Leading the Way
Our knowledgeable, local, bi-lingual trip leaders
bring to bear a lifetime of knowledge in the regions we visit. They all
possess a sense of humor and an uncanny ability to deal with the
surprises that are a part of genuine travel. Above
all, they have a passion to share their
culture, their insights and their stories with our travelers.
Keeping it Real
Our travelers are exposed to sights, sounds,
smells and scenes very different from home. It is important to understand that
some culture shock is to be expected on our immersive journeys,
nor do we shelter our travelers from the realities of the places
we visit. Please read 'Is
this trip for me? ' to assure that
our travel experience matches your expectations. |
