Manuel Canterac
- Villa el Salvador Day Leader
A dignified,
tireless man, Manuel is nonetheless
struggling against great odds.
Villa el Salvador is a shantytown
often held up as a model of community
organization and self-reliance.
However, breakneck growth - spurred
partly because of its early reputation
and success - is overwhelming efforts
to keep up with infrastructure
and services.
Manuel is a fourteen-year resident
of Villa el Salvador, as well
as a teacher, a father, a community
center director and founder of
the local greenhouse. He will
explain to our exclusive groups
the tumultous history of this
spawling community, then show
us his neighborhood, the community
center, and some other projects
which rise to strengthen and
beautify this place like fresh
stems from his greenhouse.
