Local's Perspective

Please select a local to hear their perspective:

Angela
A fourth generation ice cream maker and message therapist.  Her stand is in Oaxaca - near the Virgin of Solitude Church.

CX: How much time have you been involved in the business?
Angela: well, it's a family tradition and it starts as a game for us children.

CX: When does it turn from a game to a profession?
Angela: (laughing) when we start to ask for money!

CX: Which profession do you like more, making ice cream or message therapy?
Angela: My grandmother always said, 'if you don't want to die of hunger, you need a hobby, because you profession isn't enough for money! They are very different, but I like them both.

CX: You learned a lot from your grandmother?
Angela: Totally. She worked here since she was 8 until she was 99 years old. She used to tell me that to get in the good graces of someone, the best thing to do was to treat them to an ice cream!
