Day By Day
Explore two of Mexico's most fascinating
regions during our trip. Or, you may wish
to extend your trip and see even more with
our partners. Either way, your experience
will be up close and personal.

First
Impressions
Oaxaca is gorgeous! The best way to
explore it is by foot. We'll stroll
through the Zocalo, stop for an ice
cream in a leafy square near the Virgen
de la Soledad church, visit the ornate
Santo Domingo, and absorb the colonial
Spanish atmosphere.

Festivals
Depending on your trip dates,
you will take part in one of several
incredible celebrations:
Guelaguetza: Thousands of colorful
folkloric dancers descend on Oaxaca
for two Mondays in July for a morning
to night celebration of music, colors
and grace.
San Sebastian: Thousands of masked
dancers called "parachicos"
are one of the many highlights of
this festival which lasts for over
two weeks in January in Chiapa de
Corzo, Chiapas.
Day of the Dead: One of Mexico's most
unique and most revered traditions.
We will not only share in the festivities
with the locals, but will eat the
traditional Day of the Dead meal prepared
by a local host family as their special
guests!
For each departure date to Mexico,
you can read details about the specific
festival in which you will participate
during your trip.

Craft Villages
Oaxaca is surrounded by indigenous
villages where a variety of unique crafts
are practiced - some exclusively in
this region. We will visit Sto. Tomas
Jalietza (weaving), San Martin Tilcajete
(Alebrijes - the whimsical fantasy creatures
made from wood), San Bartolo Coyotopec
(black pottery with a
demonstration), and, if there is time,
a visit to a Cochinia farm - a natural
red dye made from a parasite that grows
on the Nopal cactus - bizarre and fascinating!

Monte Alban
and more Oaxaca
The grand Zapotec ceremonial
center is said to possess a mysterious
energy. Well, it certainly possesses
a sublime beauty and the best time to
enjoy it is the morning. Our private
transport will assure that we have all
the time we desire to explore this special
place.

Murals,
Museums, Music
Works by Diego Rivera and a
visit to one of the world's top museums
(the Museum of Anthropology) are among
our first impressions of the world's
largest urban center - Mexico City.
At night we hear the sounds of hundreds
of mariachis gathered in the Plaza Garibaldi.

Bazar Sabado
An oasis amidst the hustle
of Mexico City, San Angel and Coyoacan
are our visits today. With fine art
markets, street performers, sidewalk
cafes and cobblestoned streets, you'll
forget you are in the world's largest
metropolis.

Spectator
Sport Sunday
Whether it is soccer at one
of the world's greatest stadiums, ballet
in a splendid art deco building, or
just people watching in the Zona Rosa,
we will spend this day observing and
cheering.

Chiapas
From the pastel colonial center
of San Cristobal to the vibrant indigenous
villages of Chamula, Zinacantan and
Tenejapa, to the odiferous coffee fincas
in the nearby mountains, Chiapas is
a feast for all of the senses. We will
immerse ourselves in the rich layers
of culture here with the help of our
expert day leaders.
Although cameras are frowned upon amongst
the people and communities we visit
in these days, the experience will stay
with you for many years to come.

Palenque
(optional extension)
Arguably
Mexico's finest archaeological site,
set in the lush jungle lowlands, we'll
spend some time contemplating the great
civilizations of the past.
